Everything you want to know about the beaches of Fuerteventura

On this page you will find some useful information on the beaches, their location and the services they offer.

Needless to say, it would be impossible to list them all, so we offer you a hint and we would like to remind you that sometimes getting lost is not so bad!
Keep in mind that, in Fuerteventura, each beach has at least 2 or 3 names,so to make things easier for you we will provide you with the names in common use and, in brackets, the name you will find on Google Maps with a link to get there!
Wherever you go, remember that much of the territory of Fuerteventurais protected natural space. Leave everything as you find it, don't take anything with you (the rubbish, that is!) and respect the signs where they are, for your safety and that of the people who work to keep the island a safe and pleasant place.
And now ... relax!

Grandes Playas

(NORTH EAST)

From Corralejo, follow the road to the famous sand dunes towards Puerto del Rosario, the FV-104.Awaiting you are 9 km of 'jable' beaches, a type of sand resulting from the erosion of shells.

The magnificent 7 :

-Flag Beach, famous for kitesurfing. You will find a small bar, deckchairs and sunshades ( Playa de Medano)

-Entubadera , many surfing schools in the water, but also an area reserved for swimmers, a true paradise with a bar, deckchairs and beach umbrellas (Playa del Viejo)

-Caleta del Bajo also known as ' Riu beach' . It is located precisely in front of the Riu Oliva Beach hotel and is truly equipped with every service: public toilets, showers, beach volleyball courts, wheelchair access, deckchairs, umbrellas and bars.

-El Burro or Glass Beach, a much wilder and less crowded beach (Playa del Dormidero). There are no services.

-Playa del Moro o Alzada beach, a paradise for surfers on 'wave days', but also an enchantment of crystal-clear water, silence and peace on calm sea days. There are no services.

-Pop Corn beach (Playa vista Lobos) is not the only beach with this feature so popular with tourists, but this is the closest one to Corralejo. The famous pop corn is actually a mix of limestone seaweed and sand.Take lots of fun photos, relax in the sun, but DON'T TAKE THE POP CORN AWAY, not even one! They are gradually disappearing precisely because they have turned into an island souvenir. Help us save them so that others after you can admire them.

-Waikiki beach (Playa de los Verilitos) is the most central beach in Corralejo and also the most crowded. All around you will find several bars, restaurants and activities, one of which gave it the name that everyone now uses.If you love 'movida', this is the place for you.

El Cotillo beach Fuerteventura

El Cotillo

(NORTH WEST)

About 20 km from Corralejo, on the north-west side is El Cotillo, well worth the 20-minute drive you'll have to take.

5 beaches you cannot miss:

-  La Escalera

as its name suggests, can only be reached by a long (and a bit tiring) stone staircase, but it is worth every drop of sweat.

There are no services and it is advisable to check the tides and weather conditions.

You don't want to go down? No problem, the view from above is spectacular, especially at sunset.

Piedra Playa

(Playa de Castillo) there are actually five beaches, each strictly by its own name, which we are not going to list here.

From the vantage point of the lifeguard, you can choose where to stop.

There are no services.

Always check the signal flag before entering the water.

La Concha  is the only beach in El Cotillo with some services.

Generally more crowded than the others because being in a bay it is less affected by the ocean.

Expect shallow, calm waters more suitable for families.

From here, walking both left and right you will find other wonderful coves, wilder but almost always deserted.

Playa de los Charcos

can be reached by following the road towards the Tostón Lighthouse

. Here the tide forms wonderful natural pools: shallow water and generally much warmer, no waves, less current, in short, pure relaxation.

Playa El Majanicho

is the beach of the fishing village by the same name. Small, always deserted and sheltered in a beautiful bay.

There are no services.

You will find the famous popcorn here too and we would like to reiterate: take thousands of photos, but DO NOT TAKE THE POP CORN AWAY.

Sotavento beach - Fuerteventura

Costa Calma - Morro Jable

(SOUTH EAST)

About 1h30 by car, heading south, another long series of wonderful beaches begins.

5 little paradises :

Playa de Sotavento you can also get there from here it will leave you speechless. The characteristic feature of this beach is the famous sand tongue that is created with certain  tide.

Playa del Mal Nombre is a truly enchanting place in spite of its name. Crystal-clear waters, never too crowded, you can choose whether to use the sunbeds and umbrellas, near the small bar and restaurant, or stay in the wilder and less frequented part.

-Playa de Esquinzo Butihondo is almost 3 km long and has several access points (also fromhere) . The beach is sometimes deserted, sometimes more crowded where there are sunbeds, umbrellas and bars, restaurants and water activities. You will be spoilt for choice on where to spend a fantastic day in the sun.

-Playa del Faro in Morro Jable (Playa del Matorral) is a very long beach, about 3 km long, which is also home to the beautiful Saladar de Jandía, a protected natural space flooded by the tides that create a unique environment for vegetation and migratory sea birds.Walk along the footbridge that passes by the lighthouse and allow yourself to be enchanted. In some places the beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas and there is a nice refreshment area near the lighthouse.

-Playa de los Ojos is one of those places where you can sit in absolute silence and listen to the sound of the sea. A very wild place, often windy, there is a cave where one must enter with extreme caution and only after carefully checking the tides (it can be really dangerous).

Waves Fuerteventura at sunset

West Coast

(SOUTH TO NORTH)

The west coast of Fuerteventura deserves a special mention. You will not find peaceful and relaxing stretches of sand, but you will discover the full force of the ocean, spectacular waves, majestic cliffs, caves and ancient marinas that will remain in your heart.

The 7 pearls of the west:

-Cofete  ( and El Roque del Moro), if you've been reading up on the emblematic places of Fuerteventura, you've no doubt already heard of them.Cofete has an energy that cannot be explained until you go there. Getting there is a journey, the road is not for the faint-hearted, the ocean is always very strong and the currents very dangerous, but then you get there, you look around and you almost feel like crying because of the magnitude of what you have around you.  We will never tire of saying this:BE CAREFUL and don't mess with the ocean. The beach is NOT supervised .

-La Pared , if there is a place where you can climb to the top of a cliff and breathe in the ocean at the top of your lungs, it is here! The beach is a mix of sand, black sand and rock, no facilities and not very crowded. ACCEPT THE TIP: You can't come to Fuerteventura and not see at least one sunset here!

-Playa de Garcey famous for the now completely sunken wreck of the American Star. It is a mixed beach of sand and stones, the sea is always quite strong as are the currents. The beach is unsupervised and there are no services.

-Playa de la Solapa is very similar to Garcey, both always windswept and with rather strong seas and therefore always semi-deserted. The scenery is spectacular and it is worth stopping for a walk and to take some photos. The beach is unsupervised and there are no services.

-Playa de Ajuy , black sand beach of the fishing village with the same name. A path leads from the beach to the better-known caves. A short walk with breathtaking views and then a nice lunch in one of the restaurants right next to the beach ... strictly fish-based!The beach is unsupervised and there are no services.

-Aguas Verdes (Playa del Valle) is known for its natural pools. It is very important to check the tides and sea conditions if you want to swim, it can turn from beautiful to dangerous in no time. When the sea is strong, find a safe place and unleash your camera, spectacular waves occur as in few other places on the island.Again, no services and unsupervised beach.

-Puertito Los Molinos , this beach changes according to the season. In summer, when the ocean has less force, it is covered with sand, while in winter, due to the force of the waves, it changes clothes and wears large round black stones. The place is nevertheless worth the trip: the view from the cliff, the typical small houses and a relaxing break at the 'Bohemias del amor' restore the soul.
